Our Master Gardener class had a field trip to the amazing Tree of Life Nursery a couple of weeks ago. They grow a great selection of California natives. They’ve also introduced a collection of Sonoran Desert plants that will bloom when the natives go dormant. Planted in combination, they’ll help to keep pollinators around until the natives take over again.

I got a couple of nice shots of the poppies. To me their bloom signals the beginning of the wildflower season in Southern California. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been able to get out in the backcountry yet, but I’d better go soon!
